Red Diesel HQ

I replaced some hydraulic hoses on my tractor and made SURE that I plumbed everything back correctly. I carefully marked all of the hoses before I took them off. When I restarted the tractor the hydraulic pump made a whine and immediately split open on the side and sprayed oil everywhere.

Was this just a coincidence or did I do something wrong with the lines? Maybe just needed the air bled out? Im afraid to buy a new pump until I can get it figured out.

It sounds like the pump was deadheaded. The most common cause, by far, is using quick disconnect fittings that do not fully couple or get uncoupled somehow. I STRONGLY recommend NOT installing quick disconnect fittings unless you actually remove your loader frequently. Many people (me included) opt for a quick detach loader and think they will remove the loader when they are not using it. It is, however, a relatively difficult job to remove a loader and, in reality, most loaders stay attached once they are installed.
